Saudi cranes cross "Al-Wadeaa" borders to the Ports of Aden and Mukalla

December 9, 2018

The Saudi cranes belonging to the Ports of Aden and Mukalla, crossed the borders on Saturday afternoon heading to Yemen. These cranes were funded by the Saudi Fund for Development.

This grant comes within the framework of the Comprehensive Humanitarian Operations Plan in Yemen, which supports the United Nations Humanitarian Response Plan in Yemen 2018.It will be installed in ports designated in the coming days. It will include three cranes, two of them to Aden Port and one to Mukalla Port.

"This grant is an extension of previous efforts to increase the capacity of Yemeni ports, which is a key objective of Yemen's comprehensive humanitarian operations plan to increase Yemen's relief and commercial imports," said Mohammed Al Jaber, Executive Director of the Comprehensive Humanitarian Assistance Center in Yemen.

"The overall humanitarian operations plan in Yemen launched at the beginning of the year has succeeded in increasing the volume of imports. The average monthly volume of Yemeni imports in the first and second quarters of 2018 was 2.7 million metric tons," Al Jaber said.

He added: "The comprehensive humanitarian operations plan in Yemen aims to alleviate the human suffering of Yemeni people by supporting the Central Bank of Yemen with depositing $ 2.2 billion, in addition to the previously deposited $ 1 billion, and $ 1.25 billion from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait to support the United Nations Humanitarian Response Plan for Yemen for the year 2018. "

Mr. Al-Ghunaim, the operation supervisor of the center, said that these cranes will operate with a capacity of up to 60 tons each, in order to increase the operational capacity of the ports. This will contribute to increasing the flow of humanitarian and relief assistance in line with the objectives of the United Nations Humanitarian Response Plan for Yemen.
